Preschool Musings

I cannot decide if I should fill out Maren's baby book while I have a free moment or try my hand at a blogpost. I have never been good at baby books. Maren's baby book was, in fact,  nearly a victim of three kids fingerpainting today. It is made of paper, which is destructible...

I think I will blog and hope that what I type here will serve as documentation of our lives for the kids to read when they are older. And find their baby books practically empty. Sorry kids...

Look, Mom! Green hands!

Messy!

The kids have been attending preschool for two-hour, two-day a week shifts. It isn't much, but it is plenty at the same time. It is a lot of work to get all four out of the house and buckled in the car by 8:45 am. As the newborn gets a little bit more predictable and I get a little less sleep deprived, it should get easier.  It does give me a bit of time to run errands with only two kids... which at this point, feels like a cake walk compared to the four of them.

SCHOOL!

Maycee is "blossoming" according to her teacher this week. This was a relief as I had to leave her crying a couple days last week. Which made ME cry (she has me at a vulnerable postpartum time- it turns out that I am a basket case.)

Just not so sure about this, Maycee?
I try to glean all I can about their day at school from them when I pick them up, but it is a little difficult to really get a lot from them. If only I could be a little fly on the wall! Here are a few things I have picked up on:

  • Thor told me that he smashes the little water cups on the floor with his foot at snack time. I asked him what the teacher thought about that. "She tells me I can only do that at home." he replies.
  • Maycee said one little boy tried to hold her hand at the playground. "I didn't like that." she said. "I didn't want to hold that little boys hand." Yes, Maycee. Remember that. Boys are gross.
  • When we were leaving the house one day, Thor pulled Dax back and motioned me through. "Girls go first." he said. "Wow, Thor, where did you learn that!?" I asked. "I learned it at preschool." he replied. "Girls get to go first." He made sure all of us girls got out the door before he released Dax (he had him by the collar of his neck!)

Maren is a month old today. How time flies! She is starting to smile more and more, and even coos at me once in a while. She is getting so nice and fat, already up to close to 11 lbs 14 oz today.

Notice the matching lips?

Thor really seems old to me lately. He is just so smart and picks up on everything! I wish I could remember everything!

Grandma bought him Cheese-It Scrabble, and all he wanted to do was spell "HULK."

He  said to me a couple of days ago, "Mommy, you are the best Mommy ever. You love us and we just have so much fun together." If that didn't make my day a little bit better, I'm not sure what could have!

This morning, he said "Mommy, I am so glad we had a baby girl. Maren is so cute." It was so sweet because it was totally unprompted. Maren was still in her room sleeping.

Aw.

He also said the other day, "I just love babies. They are so cute." This was while he was wearing his "Bad to the Bone" shirt. I just laughed. He is a very rough-and-tumble boy, yet so sweet!
